Here is your next dose of standout tunes I have received recently and added to my playlists.
The Assist - Irrational Movements
Walsall 5-piece 'The Assist' are back with an album! Off the back of support slots with Blossoms and RAT BOY, the band are going from strength to strength. Highlighted track 'Irrational Movements' is a funky, trancey, indie rock song. You can here tinges of their heroes The Twang, along with a sprinkle of bands like The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays on this really fun track. There are big enough hooks in the song too that you can't help but feel it will be the perfect accompaniment for this summers festival circuit!
Dylan Kearns - Memories of You
Dylan is a solo artist, who has learnt the craft of his trade over in Dublin. In this brilliant latest single, you can hear tinges of classic rock artists such as David Bowie, but mixed with some darker, contemporary synth sounds, to offer up a complete unique sound. This sonic palette provides the perfect vehicle to deliver the sweet hooks and melodies of this meaningful song. There are some really great chord progressions in here too that really feel like you are being taken on a journey, just like the aforementioned David Bowie was so renowned for. Brilliant track from start to finish!
Wotts - LEMONADE
Ottawa Indie Pop duo Wotts are back with a dreamy new track LEMONADE. The song begins as it means to continue with a really cool beat, set to some really hooky melodies. The instrumentation here feels very 1975-esque with it's off-beat dissonant synth sounds, providing some really interest in the instrumentation. This song is all about breaking through the tough times, and you can hear that pain, combined with a feeling of hope that better times are ahead in the lead vocals. Definitely a song to put on your summer playlist!
Deleo - Satellite
Deleo are bringing dark, Depeche Mode esque riffs on latest single Satellite. The track starts off very relaxed before some dancey drums kick in, which accelerates the track along. By the time the chorus comes in you are hooked as a listener, by this really intricate and unique fusion of dark riffs and dancey basslines. The vocals really soar in this track too which helps to elevate it to new heights. The production really works great to fuse all of this different elements into a really palatable and enthralling listen!
The Silver Lines - The Big O
The Silver Lines are back with funky new song 'The Big O'. The band say they are repulsed by the notion of being just another 'all white, male, indie band', and you can really here them jumping out of that stereotype with this really interesting track. From the funky basslines and guitar motifs, to the catchy falsetto vocals, this sounds very far outside of that very generalised Indie Rock stereotype. You can almost hear hints of The Police here along with dancier elements from the likes of Hot Chip and Friendly Fires. A great new single that should definitely be added to your summer playlist!
In-Flight Movie - Promises
In-Flight Movie is a synth-punk band from Oxford and they are bringing the excitement on this latest track! Their sound as a band as the genre suggests is really unique. This song starts off as though it is going to be similar to Gary Numan, 'Cars'. However, out of nowhere the song goes up to 11 as the drums start pounding and the guitars get loud. This punk element really makes for an engaging listen as the big synth pop artists of the 80's such as Numan did tend to lack that raw vivacity that this song has in abundance!
