Here is your next dose of standout tunes I have received recently and added to my playlists.
Peyton McMahon - No Control
Singer/ songwriter Peyton McMahon is providing a fresh take on what it means to be a singer/ songwriter in 2023, with this gorgeous new single 'No Control'. He does this by implementing fresh, electronic sounds that really compliment his soulful vocals perfectly, to help convey the emotional content of the lyrics. In the second half of the song the instrumentation really picks up as the emotion in the vocals is dialled up even further, which really cuts deep. Peyton has a very Shawn Mendes-esque tone to his voice, but there is so much more to his music and songwriting that gives you the feeling he is heading towards great things!
Wave Chase - So Much To Do (So Little Time)
Bournemouth/ Brighton 5 piece Wave Chase are bringing the summertime/ beach vibes on this latest single. The track starts off with an incredibly melodic instrumental and intricate guitar playing. By the time the lead vocals kick in you are already hooked as a listener. Then by the time the infectious chorus hits you are addicted to this sound! With its uplifting instrumental and soaring melodies, you are instantly transported to a beach somewhere in your mind. You can certainly tell this band grew up on the sunny beaches of South England. You should definitely be adding this one to your summer playlists!
Fantast - Minimum
Duo 'Fantast' bring their incredibly unique sound on this new single 'Minimum'. Fantast manage to fuse 80's electronic synths and drum machine sounds, with hip hop style rap vocals to great effect. It is this combination that really helps to separate them out from other acts in the space, as it feels as though they are drawing from two very different genres, whilst combining them to create a sound that is entirely unique to them. This one is a slow builder that will have you nodding along as you voyage with them through this really interesting sonic journey and landscape they are crafting!
Galaxy Thief - Second Messing
The latest single by the brilliant Galaxy Thief kicks off with some heavily echoed arpeggiated guitars, which lulls you into a false sense of security before the ferocious drums and distorted guitars kick in! The verses then head back to those arpeggiated guitars, only with a little more distortion this time, which segues perfectly into the chorus, which really takes the track to a new level. The choruses in this song are huge and have anthem written all over it! With its soaring vocal melodies and high energy rock instrumentals. Towards the end, the track breaks down once again into those arpeggiated guitars before building up to one huge final climatic choruses. A thrilling listen from start to finish!
psychosurfer - Waves That Kill
'Waves That Kill' is a really intriguing listen from start to finish. It combines elements of surf rock (that fit the theme of the song) and also elements of synth pop with its big synth sounds in a really interesting way. Musically as well, there are some really interesting chord changes that pleasantly catches you by surprise, whilst also having some brilliant basslines and guitar licks catching your ear throughout. Add to that the catchiness of the chorus and you've got one hell of a bop on your hands! The production here is really top notch and combines all of those different elements into one unique and cohesive, uplifting sound!
Addley - Are You Awake?
Addley describes his music as Dancey/ Sad music from Liverpool! What a description that is and when you listen to this single you will understand what a great summary that is. The emotional tone of the vocals really pull at your heartstrings as a listener straight away and this is juxtaposed by the thumping EDM sounding kick drum and pianos that propel this track. Midway through this song really comes to life as the drums in particular and the other instrumentation really pick up pace. You then get the introduction of some beautiful strings that only add to the emotion that runs throughout this song. This really helps to separate it from other dance/ pop songs, with the constant battle between those uplifting dance sounds and the emotive lyrics and vocals. Superb track.
Robert Vendetta - Vacation
This new single by Robert Vendetta is an uplifting number all about escaping the hardship of the working life and going on vacation! And that sense of fun really translates into the music. Listening to this song you really feel you are right there with Robert on vacation, having a great time with friends and family and enjoying dancing the nights away! Robert describes his music genre as Retropop or modern old as he sometimes calls it... And you can definitely hear that in the music with a combination of old and new sounds, constantly crashing together to create an entirely unique sound of his own! All that's left to say is I am ready to go!
Wotts - Blue
Wotts are back again with a brand new single, "blue". On this latest single they are sure to continue to captivate their growing audience with their irresistible songwriting and dynamic, energetic sound. You can really hear their growth and adaptability here, as they venture into a more melodic and laid-back direction while retaining those catchy hooks and pop elements. "blue" stands as the second release from their forthcoming EP, aptly titled "garden," and represents a departure from their traditional retro, 80s-inspired pop sound. Inspired by their fellow Canadian counterparts, Men I Trust, Wotts infuse the track with a luminous and breezy energy, effortlessly capturing the essence of the blossoming spring season. Beyond its instantly addictive melodies, the song serves as a poignant reminder to embrace the journey we tread, infusing their sound with a strong sense of upliftment.
renaissance boy - sugarbird
renaissance boy, brings a quirky pop rock sound on his second single "sugarbird". The heartfelt down to earth lyrics introduce the track perfectly, with themes of reaching out for closer relationships and feelings. The kind of lyrics that you could see working perfectly as a soundtrack to a coming of age movie. The production here is really cool with interesting sounds, grabbing your ear at every turn. You then have a big singalong choruses that you can imagine huge crowds singing along to in the future. By the time the song is over, it will no doubt be engrained in your head and be playing over and over in your head over the coming days. Great track!
